Joseph McFadden (born 9 October 1975) is a Scottish actor, best known for his roles in The Crow Road, Sex, Chips & Rock n' Roll, Heartbeat and Holby City. He won the 2017 series of the BBC One series Strictly Come Dancing with professional dance partner Katya Jones.
Archibald Joseph Cronin (19 July 1896 – 6 January 1981), known as A. J. Cronin, was a Scottish physician and novelist. His best-known novel is The Citadel (1937), about a Scottish doctor who serves in a Welsh mining village before achieving success in London, where he becomes disillusioned about the venality and incompetence of some doctors. Cronin knew both areas, as a medical inspector of mines and as a doctor in Harley Street. The book exposed unfairness and malpractice in British medicine and helped to inspire the National Health Service. The Stars Look Down, set in the North East of England, is another of his best-selling novels inspired by his work among miners. Both novels have been filmed, as have Hatter's Castle, The Keys of the Kingdom and The Green Years. His 1935 novella Country Doctor inspired a long-running BBC radio and TV series, Dr. Finlay's Casebook (1962–1971), set in the 1920s. There was a follow-up series in 1993–1996.
David William Robert Brand, Lord Brand (21 October 1923 – 14 April 1996) was a British lawyer and judge. He had a conservative outlook on life, and as a judge he had a reputation for both speedy decisions and severe sentences.His university education was interrupted by service in the British Army during World War II. He then became an advocate, and after a career as a prosecutor, he was a sheriff in southern Scotland from 1968 to 1970. He was Solicitor-General for Scotland from 1970 to 1972, and then served from 1972 to 1989 as a Senator of the College of Justice. In 1994, he was briefly an appellate judge in Botswana.
Sir Daniel McGarvey, CBE (16 September 1919 – 26 April 1977) was a British trade unionist.
McGarvey was born in Clydebank and attended Our Holy Redeemer School, then St Patrick's High School, Dumbarton. At the age of fifteen, he began working as an apprentice caulker.He became active in the United Society of Boilermakers and Iron and Steel Shipbuilders, being elected to its general council in 1951, and in 1954 to the executive council of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions. From 1958-65, he served on the National Executive Council of the Labour Party. In 1964, he was elected as General Secretary of the renamed Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths and Structural Workers.In 1965, he was elected to the General Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and he became the President of the TUC in 1976, but died the following April, before completing his term.

He wrote The Slab Boys Trilogy, plays which explore working-class life in Scotland, and the TV dramas Tutti Frutti and Your Cheatin' Heart. Byrne was also a painter, printmaker and scenic designer.

He was the first president of the Steel Workers Organizing Committee (SWOC), the first president of the United Steelworkers of America (USWA), and the longest-serving president of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO).
