José M. Cabanillas (September 23, 1901 – September 15, 1979), was a rear admiral in the United States Navy who as an executive officer of the USS Texas participated in the invasions of North Africa and the Battle of Normandy (also known as D-Day) during World War II.
John Howland Wood Jr. (March 31, 1916 – May 29, 1979) was an American lawyer and judge from Texas. He served as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas before being assassinated by contract killer Charles Harrelson outside Wood's home in San Antonio, in 1979. Wood's killing was the first assassination of a federal judge in the 20th century.

Turid Haaland (June 23, 1908 – October 12, 1979) was a Norwegian actress.Haaland debuted in 1926 at the Norwegian Theater. She played the daughter in Runar Schildt's play Den store rolla, and the character's parents were played by her real parents, Mally Carenius Haaland and Ingjald Haaland, who were both actors. She was later mainly associated with the New Theater (and its successor, the Oslo New Theater), mainly in comedy roles, such as Nille in Jeppe på Bjerget.Haaland was also active as a film actress. She made her debut in Familien på Borgan in 1939. She was particularly active on the screen in the 1950s, and she starred in several of Arne Skouen's films. She had one of the lead roles in Aldri annet enn bråk.
Haaland performed the voice of Karius in the animated film Karius og Baktus.
Paolo Carlini (6 January 1922 – 3 November 1979) was an Italian stage, television and film actor. He appeared in 45 films between 1940 and 1979. He is perhaps best-known to international audiences for his supporting role as the hairdresser Mario in Roman Holiday (1953) alongside Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
Born in Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna, Carlini followed the acting courses held by actress Teresa Franchini and debuted at very young age on stage. He is regarded as one of the early stars of Italian television mini-series (the so-called "sceneggiati"). He is also well known for his association with actress Lea Padovani, with whom he starred in a number of critically acclaimed stage dramas in the 1950s. Aside from his long film career, Carlini attained notoriety as the rumoured partner of Giovanni Cardinal Montini, Archbishop of Milan, latterly Pope Paul VI.

Jean Berthoin (January 12, 1895 in Enghien-les-Bains, Val-d'Oise – February 25, 1979 in Paris) was a French politician. As Minister of National Education under Charles de Gaulle, he instituted a policy of compulsory education for all children, both French and foreign citizens, until the age of sixteen, building on the earlier reforms of 1936. Implemented in 1959, this was known as the Berthoin Ordinance. He also suggested that the baccalauréat be abolished, prompting a significant backlash in the Parisian press.Prior to World War II, Berthoin had been the director of national security (Sûreté) in the French Interior Ministry.
