Angelo Louis Marie Hesnard (or Angel Marie Louis Hesnard; 22 May 1886, Pontivy – 17 April 1969, Rochefort) was a French born psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and was an important figure in 1930s French sexology.

Gaëtan Henri Alfred Edouard Léon Marie Gatian de Clérambault (2 July 1872 – 17 November 1934) was a French psychiatrist.
Apart from his psychiatric studies, he was an acclaimed painter and wrote on the costumes of various native tribes. He was also a professional photographer; from 1914 to 1918 he took around 30,000 photographs. Some of the photos were taken as part of a research project involving symptoms of hysteria. Many of his photos were later placed in the Musée de l'Homme.

Henri Baruk (August 15, 1897 in Saint-Avé, Morbihan – June 14, 1999 in Saint-Maurice, Val-de-Marne) was a French neuropsychiatrist of Jewish descent, internationally renowned, an apostle of Moral treatment, whose studies inspired by the Bible, and in contrast to Freud's, renewed positively the modern psychiatry. Jules Baillarger, full name Jules Gabriel François Baillarger (25 March 1809 – 31 December 1890), was a French neurologist and psychiatrist.

Théophile Archambault (19 February 1806 – 12 December 1863) was a French psychiatrist who was a native of Tours.
He studied in Angers and Paris, where he later worked under psychiatrist Jean-Étienne Dominique Esquirol (1772–1840) in an informal capacity. In 1840 he became assistant to François Leuret (1797–1851) at the Bicêtre hospital, and soon afterwards was tasked with re-organization of the Maréville asylum in Nancy. He spent seven years at Nancy, where he also gave classes on mental pathology at the school of medicine. In 1848 he succeeded Achille-Louis Foville (1799–1878) at the Charenton mental hospital.

Daniel Widlöcher (8 June 1929 – 14 December 2021) was a French psychiatrist and academic. He served as president of the International Psychoanalytical Association in 2001.

Serge Lebovici (10 June 1915, Paris – 11 August 2000, Marvejols) was a French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst.

André Bourguignon (8 August 1920 – 9 April 1996) was a French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, born in Paris.
A psychiatry professor at the University of Paris XII, he was part of a team in charge of translating Sigmund Freud's work from German into French, together with Jean Laplanche, Pierre Cotet and François Robert.He was father of actress Anémone.

Boris Cyrulnik (birth 26 July 1937 in Bordeaux) is a French doctor, ethologist, neurologist, and psychiatrist.
As a Jewish child during World War II, he was entrusted to a foster family for his own protection. In 1943 he was taken with adults in a Nazi-led capture in Bordeaux. He avoided detention by hiding for a while in the restrooms and later being hidden from Nazi searches as a farm boy under the name Jean Laborde until the end of the war. Both of his parents were arrested and murdered during World War II. His own survival motivated his career in psychiatry. He studied medicine at the University of Paris. He has written several books of popular science on psychology. He is known in France for developing and explaining to the public the concept of Psychological resilience.
He is a professor at the University of the South, Toulon-Var.
He was awarded the 2008 Prix Renaudot de l'essai.

Jacques Jean Lhermitte (English: ) (20 January 1877 – 24 January 1959) was a French neurologist and neuropsychiatrist.
