Joaquín Bustoz Jr. (1939–2003) was an American mathematician who worked as a professor of mathematics at Arizona State University. His mathematical research concerned functional analysis, including orthogonal polynomials and special functions, but he was primarily known as a mentor to underrepresented minorities in mathematics.Bustoz was born in Tempe, Arizona; his parents worked on the local farms and also for the Tempe Elementary School District, which eventually named the Joaquin and Ramona Bustoz Elementary School after them. He graduated from Arizona State University in 1962 with a degree in mathematics, and after two years in California working for Univac returned to ASU, where he completed a doctorate in 1967 under the supervision of Walter Tandy Scott. After teaching at the University of Cincinnati from 1969 to 1976, during which he also spent a year at the National University of Colombia as a Fulbright Scholar, he returned to ASU again as an associate professor in 1976, and was promoted to full professor in 1978. He chaired the ASU mathematics department from 1982 to 1985.In 1985, Bustoz founded the Summer Math–Science Honors program for high school students, which continues at ASU as the Joaquin Bustoz Math–Science Honors Program. Bustoz also worked on mathematics education on the Navajo Nation and the Pima reservations. For his efforts, president Bill Clinton honored him in 1996 with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.He was killed by a car accident on August 13, 2003. As well as the Math–Science Honors program, the Joaquin Bustoz Jr. Professorship at ASU, held by Carlos Castillo-Chavez, is named after Bustoz.

Esther Victoria Cooper Jackson (August 21, 1917 – August 23, 2022) was an American civil rights activist, social worker, and communist activist. She worked with Shirley Graham Du Bois, W. E. B. Du Bois, Edward Strong, and Louis E. Burnham, and was one of the founding editors of the magazine Freedomways, a theoretical, political and literary journal published from 1961 to 1985. She also served as organizational and executive secretary at the Southern Negro Youth Congress.

Mandalit del Barco (Spanish pronunciation: [mandaˈlið ðel ˈβaɾko]) is an arts and culture reporter for NPR News (National Public Radio). A fourth generation journalist, she was born in Lima, Peru to a Peruvian father and a Mexican-American mother. Her stories are featured on all NPR shows and platforms, including All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Weekend Edition and NPR.org. Del Barco has also been published in numerous anthologies.Based at NPR West in Culver City, California, del Barco reports and produces stories about cultural topics. Since 1998, she has reported for NPR from the red carpet and backstage at the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards. as well as the Golden Globes. She also regularly reports from the Sundance Film Festival.
In the 1990s and 2000s, she chronicled street gangs in Los Angeles. She traveled to Tokyo to cover the summer Olympics, to Puerto Rico to cover the effects of Hurricane Maria, to Haiti to report on the earthquake. In 2022, she reported, narrated and produced a five part series on "Latinos in Hollywood."

Linda Lomahaftewa (born 1947) is a Hopi and Choctaw printmaker, painter, and educator living in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Charles Vert Willie (October 8, 1927 – January 11, 2022) was an American sociologist who was the Charles William Eliot Professor of Education, Emeritus at Harvard University. His areas of research included desegregation, higher education, public health, race relations, urban community problems, and family life. Willie considered himself an applied sociologist, concerned with solving social problems.

Samuel F. Morrison (born December 19, 1936) is an American librarian. Morrison was director of the Broward County Library system for 13 years and the catalyst behind the system's establishment of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. He also served as the chief librarian of the Chicago Public Library from 1987 to 1989, overseeing the design and construction of the Harold Washington Library.

Albert Cecil Williams (born September 22, 1929) is an American pastor, community leader, and author who is the pastor emeritus of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco.
