Léopold_Reichling

Léopold Reichling (March 11, 1921 in Luxembourg – May 2, 2009) was a Luxembourg biologist and naturalist.
He is especially known for his publications in the fields of botany, zoology and nature conservation. He assembled three major scientific collections: an herbarium, a collection of heteroptera and a collection of human artefacts of the Stone Age.
The following taxa were named after Léopold Reichling:

Asplenium ×reichlingii Lawalrée, 1951; a monstrous form of the fern Asplenium trichomanes;Taraxacum reichlingii Soest, 1971; a plant;Lichenoconium reichlingii Diederich, 1986; a fungus;Reichlingia leopoldii Diederich & Scheid., 1996; a lichen.

Jack_Ward_Thomas

Jack Ward Thomas (September 7, 1934 – May 26, 2016) was the thirteenth chief of the U.S. Forest Service, serving during the Clinton administration years of 1993–1996.
He was born in Fort Worth, Texas. His undergraduate education and degree (a BS in wildlife management in 1957) was from Texas A&M University. He worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for ten years. Then while working as a USFS research biologist at Morgantown, West Virginia, he received an MS in wildlife ecology from West Virginia University. He headed a Forest Service research unit at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He received his PhD in forestry there in 1972. In 1974, he moved to La Grande, Oregon, working as the chief research wildlife biologist and program leader at the USFS Forestry and Range Sciences Laboratory.
On December 1, 1993, he was appointed Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. During his time as head of the USFS, the Northwest Forest Plan was adopted. Jack became a member of the Boone and Crockett Club in 1994. After retiring from the Forest Service, he accepted a position as the Boone and Crockett Professor of Wildlife Conservation at the School of Forestry of the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana—a position he held until 2006 when he officially retired.
He died on May 26, 2016, after a battle with cancer, at his home in Florence, Montana.

Helen_Matusevich_Oujesky

Helen Matusevich Oujesky (August 14, 1930 – February 1, 2010) was an American professor of microbiology at the University of Texas, San Antonio. In this capacity she actively pursued environmental research on pollution of soil and water, particularly of toxic wastes.In her career span of 45 years in the field of education and research, Oujesky was the recipient of several awards such as from the National Science Foundation, Student Science Training Programs for High School Students, Minority Research Programs for Minority High School Students, and an Intervention Model Program for Girls Using Laboratory Activities in Science, Math and Engineering. On 30 January 1997, her name was incorporated in the Texas Women's Hall of Fame.

Marshall_Conring_Johnston

Marshall Conring Johnston (born May 10, 1930) is an American botanist who made several explorations in Mexico and specialized in plants in the family Gesneriaceae.
Johnston was born in San Antonio in the family of Theodore Harris Johnston and Lucile Mary Conring. He went on his first botanical expeditions to Mexico while still in high school during 1945-1947. On those trips he visited the northern Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Durango, and Zacatecas. From 1972-1974 he made trips to Chihuahua, concentrating on desert flora. These early 1970s trips resulted in the bulk of his botanic collection. Marshal participated in the creation of the books Flora of Texas, Flora of North America, and Flora Neotropica. Johnston was also a professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Julius Richard Petri (31 May 1852 – 20 December 1921) was a German microbiologist who is generally credited with inventing the device known as the Petri dish, which is named after him, while working as assistant to bacteriologist Robert Koch.

Aldo_Perroncito

Aldo Perroncito (18 May 1882, Turin – 1929) was an Italian pathologist. He was the son of parasitologist Edoardo Perroncito (1847–1936). He is known for research involving regeneration of peripheral nerves, kinetic behavior of the Golgi apparatus during mitosis, and studies of pellagra.
In 1905 he obtained his medical doctorate from the University of Pavia, where he spent the following five years as an assistant to pathologist Camillo Golgi (1846–1926). During this time period he also conducted studies at the Institute of Physiology in Berlin and at the Institute of Parasitology in Paris. Afterwards he taught classes in general pathology at the University of Cagliari, returning to Pavia in 1922 as a full professor and as a successor to Camillo Golgi.
While an assistant at Pavia, he demonstrated with a severed peripheral nerve, that the stump attached to the cell body was able to survive and regenerate new branches, while its other stump, being detached from the cell body, degenerated. In 1910 he discovered that a Golgi body dissociated into a number of elongated structures during cell division. Perroncito named the split up pieces "dictyosomes".
