Bernard Lazare (14 June 1865, Nîmes – 1 September 1903, Paris) was a French literary critic, political journalist, polemicist, and anarchist. He is known as the first Dreyfusard.

François Bégaudeau (French pronunciation: [fʁɑ̃swa beɡodo]; born 27 April 1971) is a French novellist and essayist. He is best known for co-writing and starring in Entre les murs (2008), a film based on his 2006 novel of the same name. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009.

Charles Delaunay (18 January 1911 – 16 February 1988) was a French author, jazz expert, co-founder and long-term leader of the Hot Club de France.

Hugues Panassié (27 February 1912 in Paris – 8 December 1974 in Montauban) was a French critic, record producer, and impresario of traditional jazz.

Francis Marmande (born 1945) is a French author, musician and journalist for the French newspaper Le Monde since 1977. Marmande currently serves as the director of a modern literature laboratory (Littérature au présent) at University of Paris VII: Denis Diderot.Marmande graduated in 1966 from the École Normale Supérieure in Saint-Cloud. A jazz critic, Marmande also plays double bass and has recorded with the Jac Berrocal Group. He was a contributor to Jazz Magazine from 1971 to 2000, which he also helped illustrate from 1976 to 1994.
Since 2006, he has had a regular column in Le Monde, writing on topics such as jazz, bullfighting, and literature.

Frank Ténot (31 October 1925 – 8 January 2004) was a French press agent, pataphysician, and jazz critic. He managed a number of publications over the course of his long association with Daniel Filipacchi, a publisher of multiple magazines who had started as a photographer and jazz expert. Together they founded the influential radio show Salut les copains, featuring rock and roll, and the spin-off magazine of the same name. It was later renamed as Salut!.

Laurent Cugny (born 14 April 1955 in La Garenne-Colombes) is a French jazz musician (pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger), jazz critic and musicologist. In 1987, he recorded two albums with his big band Lumière and Gil Evans.

Gustave Lanson (5 August 1857 – 15 December 1934) was a French historian and literary critic. He taught at the Sorbonne and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. A dominant figure in French literary criticism, he influenced several generations of writers and critics through his teachings, which were anti-systematic and promoted a scrupulous and erudite approach to texts via extensive firsthand research, inventorying, and in-depth historical investigation.
