20th-century Mexican screenwriters

Gunther Gerzso (June 17, 1915 – April 21, 2000) was a Mexican painter, designer and director and screenwriter for film and theatre.

Gregorio Walerstein Weinstock (22 February 1913 – 24 January 2002) was a Mexican film producer and screenwriter of Jewish descent. He produced 193 films between 1941 and 1989. His productions include Ash Wednesday (1958), which was entered into the 8th Berlin International Film Festival, and La Valentina (1966), his last collaboration with actress María Félix. He also discovered actresses Flor Silvestre, Ofelia Montesco, and Hilda Aguirre.

Adolfo Best Maugard, also known as Fito Best (June 11, 1891 – August 25, 1964), was a Mexican painter, film director and screenwriter.

Eulalio "Lalo" González Ramírez (16 December 1921 – 1 September 2003), nicknamed "Piporro", was a Mexican actor, humorist, singer-songwriter, screenwriter, announcer, film director, and film producer.

Mauricio Magdaleno Cardona (13 May 1906 – 30 June 1986), better known as Mauricio Magdaleno, was a Mexican screenwriter and occasional director of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. He was nominated for six Ariel Awards and won for his second nomination for Río Escondido in 1949. Magdaleno was also a well-known journalist, writer, and politician.

Elena Garro (December 11, 1916 – August 22, 1998) was a Mexican screenwriter, journalist, dramaturg, short story writer, and novelist. She has been described as the initiator of the Magical Realism movement, though she rejected this affiliation. She is a recipient of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize.

Juan Nepomuceno Carlos Pérez Rulfo Vizcaíno, best known as Juan Rulfo (Spanish: [ˈxwan ˈrulfo] ; 16 May 1917 – 7 January 1986), was a Mexican writer, screenwriter, and photographer. He is best known for two literary works, the 1955 novel Pedro Páramo, and the collection of short stories El Llano en llamas (1953). This collection includes the popular tale "¡Diles que no me maten!" ("Tell Them Not to Kill Me!").
