John Alfred Stewart Jackson (27 December 1898 – 13 March 1958) was a Chilean-British cricketer and school founder.
A right-handed batsman and right-arm leg spin bowler, he played seven times for the Chile national cricket team against Argentina between 1922 and 1938. Earlier in his career, he played county cricket for Somerset.
Dextra Quotskuyva Nampeyo (September 6, 1928 – February 2019) was a Native American potter and artist. She was in the fifth generation of a distinguished ancestral line of Hopi potters.
In 1994 Dextra Quotskuyva was proclaimed an "Arizona Living Treasure," and in 1998 she received the first Arizona State Museum Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001, the Wheelwright Museum organized a 30-year retrospective exhibition of Quotskuyva's pottery, and in 2004, she received the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts Lifetime Achievement award.
Antoine-Fortuné Marion (10 October 1846 – 22 January 1900) was a French naturalist with interests in geology, zoology, and botany. He was also a competent amateur painter.
A school friend of Paul Cézanne's in Aix-en-Provence, Marion went on to become professor and director of the Natural History Museum in Marseille. Cézanne painted his portrait in 1866–1867 at the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan.
He received his higher education in Marseille, earning his arts and letters degree in 1866 and his degree in sciences in 1868. In 1878 he opened a marine laboratory with financial assistance provided by the city of Marseille, which led in 1882 to the building of the Marine Station of Endoume. In 1880 he became director of the Muséum d’histoire naturelle de Marseille.He was a good friend of Gaston de Saporta, with whom he collaborated on works in the field of botany. As a zoologist, his research included studies of segmented marine worms, free-living roundworms of the Mediterranean, nemerteans, rotifers, zoantharians, alcyonarians, parasites that affected crustaceans and investigations of the class Enteropneusta. As a result of his work in the fight against Phylloxera (an aphid-like pest), he was given awards by the French and foreign governments.He was a founder of the publication "Annales du Musée d'histoire naturelle de Marseille".His painting The Village Church now belongs to the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Dorothea Neff (21 February 1903 – 27 July 1986) was a Vienna stage actress during the 1930s. Neff helped hide her Jewish friend Lilli Wolff, after she received resettlement orders from the Nazis to leave Vienna. To confuse the Gestapo, Neff wrote a suicide note and signed it 'Lilli' and left it in her apartment. Neff allowed Lilli to live with her for a short time and later Lilli moved in with Mati Driessen and Meta Schmidt. Driessen and Schmidt were honored in Yad Vashem in Israel as Righteous Among the Nations.
She later moved from the stage to the cinema, acting up until her death in 1986.
In 1979, Dorothea Neff was awarded to the list of Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem in recognition of the risk to her own life, in hiding a Jew during the Holocaust. Since 1967 to her death, Neff was blind, but still worked as an actress.
Sir Daniel McGarvey, CBE (16 September 1919 – 26 April 1977) was a British trade unionist.
McGarvey was born in Clydebank and attended Our Holy Redeemer School, then St Patrick's High School, Dumbarton. At the age of fifteen, he began working as an apprentice caulker.He became active in the United Society of Boilermakers and Iron and Steel Shipbuilders, being elected to its general council in 1951, and in 1954 to the executive council of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions. From 1958-65, he served on the National Executive Council of the Labour Party. In 1964, he was elected as General Secretary of the renamed Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths and Structural Workers.In 1965, he was elected to the General Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and he became the President of the TUC in 1976, but died the following April, before completing his term.

Sir Gavin Harry Laird (14 March 1933 – 26 October 2017) was a Scottish trade unionist, who became General Secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU) and a Member of the Court of the Bank of England.
Growing up in Clydebank he attended a local high school then began working for Singer. He became an Amalgamated Engineering Union (AEU) shop steward there, then convenor.Three years after taking up a full-time position with the union, he was elected to the AEU executive and later elected AEU general secretary, remaining in that position after the merger which created the AEEU. He addressed the Confederation of British Industry annual conference in 1986 – an unusual move for a trade unionist at the time.He appeared as a castaway on the BBC Radio programme Desert Island Discs on 25 October 1992, received an Honorary Doctorate from Heriot-Watt University in 1994, was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) under Margaret Thatcher's government and knighted in 1995 at the behest of Tony Blair.He retired from the AEEU in 1995 and died in October 2017 at the age of 84 after a long illness.
