James Wesley Silver (June 28, 1907 – July 25, 1988) was a history professor and author. He wrote Mississippi: The Closed Society. He was a professor at the University of Mississippi, then University of Notre Dame, and finally at the University of South Florida. He was targeted for firing despite his tenure at Ole Miss because of his support for civil rights.When rioting erupted on the Ole Miss campus after James Meredith became the University of Mississippi's first African-American student and federal troops moved in to keep order, Silver befriended Meredith. In a speech to the Southern Historical Association in the Fall of 1963, he analyzed the violence with which Mississippi was resisting desegregation. Mississippi was, he said, "a closed society" -- "totalitarian," "monolithic," "corrupt." The speech received widespread media coverage, and he expanded his analysis in a book, Mississippi: The Closed Society (1964). His advocacy of racial change had subjected him to hostility in Mississippi and even an attempt by the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission to have him fired. That effort failed, but Silver took a job teaching at University of Notre Dame in Indiana.He taught at Notre Dame from 1965 until 1969. He left Notre Dame to teach history at the University of South Florida until he retired in 1982.He corresponded with the president of Tougaloo College A. D. Beittel.Photographer Martin J. Dain took photographs of him in Oxford, Mississippi. Silver was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

André Cauvin (French: [kovɛ̃]; 12 February 1907 – 2 April 2004) was a Belgian documentary film director. He directed five films between 1939 and 1955. His 1952 film Bongolo was entered into the 1953 Cannes Film Festival.

Miguel Torga (Portuguese: [miˈɣɛl ˈtɔɾɣɐ]), pseudonym of Adolfo Correia da Rocha (São Martinho de Anta, Sabrosa, Vila Real district, 12 August 1907 – Coimbra, 17 January 1995), is considered one of the greatest Portuguese writers of the 20th century. He wrote poetry, short stories, a genre in which he is accounted a master, theater and a 16 volume diary, written from 1932 to 1993.

Raymond Bussières (3 November 1907 – 29 April 1982) was a French film actor. He appeared in more than 160 films from 1933 to 1982. He was born in Ivry-la-Bataille and died in Paris. He is buried in Marchenoir. He was married to the actress Annette Poivre.

Mary Dresselhuys (January 22, 1907 – May 19, 2004) was primarily a Dutch stage actress, although she also appeared in a number of films. She was born in Tiel, the Netherlands, and died in Amsterdam.
Dresselhuys portrayed more than 150 characters during her long career. She acted in a wide range of roles but was most known as the Queen of Comedy, and continued to performed well into her 90s. After she turned 80, she asked Paul Haenen to write a play, Een bijzonder prettig vergezicht ('A particularly pleasant view'), in which she and her daughter Petra could perform together. At the age of 85 she played a part in the movie Eline Vere, and at 90 she was back on stage to do a retrospective of her career, together with Paul Haenen.

Ludwig Franz Benedikt Biermann (March 13, 1907 in Hamm – January 12, 1986 in München) was a German astronomer, obtaining his Ph.D. from Göttingen University in 1932.He made important contributions to astrophysics and plasma physics, discovering the Biermann battery. He predicted the existence of the solar wind which in 1947 he dubbed "solar corpuscular radiation".
He was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in the fall of 1961. He won the Bruce Medal in 1967 and the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1974.
Asteroid 73640 Biermann is named in his honor.

Lambertus "Bep" van Klaveren (26 September 1907 – 12 February 1992) was a Dutch boxer, who won the gold medal in the featherweight division at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Van Klaveren remains the only Dutch boxer to have won an Olympic gold medal. His younger brother Piet competed as a boxer at the 1952 Summer Olympics.
