Hampstead () is an area in London, England, which lies four miles (six kilometres) northwest of Charing Cross, and extends from the A5 road (Roman Watling Street) to Hampstead Heath, a large, hilly expanse of parkland. The area forms the northwest part of the London Borough of Camden, a borough in Inner London which for the purposes of the London Plan is designated as part of Central London.Hampstead is known for its intellectual, liberal, artistic, musical, political, and literary associations. It contains a number of listed buildings, such as Burgh House, Kenwood House, the Spaniard's Inn, and the Everyman cinema, one of the oldest in the world. With some of the most expensive housing in London, Hampstead is known as London's home for the rich and famous, with local residents past and present including Jonny Buckland, Helena Bonham Carter, Will Champion, Agatha Christie, T.S. Eliot, Sigmund Freud, Stephen Fry, Ricky Gervais, Jim Henson, George Orwell, Harry Styles, Elizabeth Taylor. Hampstead has been home to more Prime Ministers, and contains more millionaires within its boundaries, than any other area of the United Kingdom.At the Stanfield Hall in Hampstead, the national Headquaters of the Rosicrucian Society of England were situated until 2022.
